Just make sure the toothpaste is not a whitening formula and don t use this method on anything silver plated.
How to clean sterling silver necklace with toothpaste. Make the silver wet then add a little of toothpaste. Spray some glass cleaner directly onto a soft cloth or soft bristled toothbrush. The best way to do this is to plug your sink and rinse the jewelry under running water. Using too much or too abrasive a formula might. Don t forget that a little goes a long way.
Take a bowl of clean luke warm water and dip the jewelry piece into it so as to remove the accumulated toothpaste. Toothpaste is one of the most inexpensive easy and effective ways of cleaning your junk or silver jewelry. Apply the toothpaste to the jewelry using the toothbrush and scrub the silver pieces. Again do not scrub using sturdy scrubbers or toothpastes. If your jewelry is more tarnished you may need to get actual jewelry polish to clean the necklace.
Rub it lightly with the moistened fabric until it is polished. Alternatively you can make a paste of baking soda and water and rub it into the necklace as a polish. Glass cleaners like windex can also be used to clean silver. Gently rub the toothpaste over the silver. You can see in the picture below where i used the toothpaste to clean the silver.
Give glass cleaner a try. The water and a soft cloth will be enough to remove all toothpaste from the jewelry piece. Use the cloth to clean the silver and then either rinse the piece under warm water or wipe off the excess cleaner with a damp cloth. Rinse the jewelry in warm water. Take care around any gemstone embedded in the jewelry to avoid scratching it.
The right side was where i used the toothpaste to clean. With a soft cotton pad cloth or a toothbrush rub a little paste all over and wipe it thoroughly. Another option is half a cup of lemon juice with a tablespoon of olive oil. Then once you have scrubbed all the silver rinse it off under warm water and pat dry. Commercial toothpaste contains a form of silica that reacts with the silver chemically to remove stains.
